YISG-2022: Yakutia Research School is a unique project.

We talked about Yakutia Research School and Yakutsk International Science Fair international competition of research works of students from Russia and other countries of the world with head of the scientific and methodological department of the Sakha Junior Science Academy Yana Lapteva. 

Yana, as we know, this year YRS site will work in the frame of second International Science Games. Could you tell us about what is expected for participants? 

Yakutia Research school is a unique educational project, where within 10 days participants gather together to take part in research express projects in the field of natural sciences under head of tutors Republic scientists. This year, in the frame of II International Science Games, six teams will be formed, and they will be working on natural science related projects. From 13 June to 18 June participants study remotely then from 30 June to 4 July there will be researches at Sakha Junior Science Academy. 

Participants will plunge into the world of science and learn all the secrets of research work, will receive valuable experience, as well as the practice of public speaking, experience the application of modern technologies in project and research activities, and of course will find many new friends.

What is the difference between International and Yakutia Research School? 
The project tasks of Yakutia Research School are focused on students of 5-7 grades. The idea of creating this school originated from Yakutia International Research School in 2020. In 2017 and 2018, ten and eleven international research schools were held at Sakha Junior Science Academy. International Research School is flagship project MILSET-VOSTOK - Eurasian Branch of the International Movement for the Promotion of Scientific and Technological Development MILSET (MILSET Expo-Sciences International)

How many children are going to participate this year? 

As expected, there will be 60 participants from all regions of our republic, each project group will consist of 10 participants.
The participants will work with scientific literature, find information, collect materials on their research object in the area, process the received material. This year participants will work in the following projects: “Insects - our friends”, “Chemistry in our food”, “Weather forecast: myth or truth?”, “Wild growing plants of my region”, “Plastic as an environmental problem”, “Guiding thread (study of ways of orienting on a location)”. 

Each member of the school can perform the project work and get the product of research, and present the work in conferences and competitions in the future. 

For example, according to the results of the Yakutia Research work “Junior-2021”, 12 students were recommended to participate in the republican scientific conference-competition 
of young researchers named after academician V. Larionov “A Step into the future” in 2021-22 academic year. The conference is included in the list of Olympics and other science and creative competitions of the Ministry of Education and included in the State Information Resource about persons with outstanding abilities. 

Could you please tell us what is the deadline for competitive selection for participants in the International Science Fair, and what is expected for participants from Russia and other countries of the world? 

Yakutia International Science Fair (international competition of scientific and research works of children from Russia and other countries) will be held in 2 stages: 
First stage – selection (correspondence) until June 15, 2022. 
Second stage – final (direct and/or remote) from July 5 to July 10, 2022. 
Teams will participate in a poster session and breakout sessions where they will make oral presentations in 4 sections: 
- mathematics, computer science and information technology 
- physics, astronomy, and engineering 
- life sciences, environmental sciences and chemical sciences 
- social and humanities 
Each team submits no more than 4 reports, one report per section. 
The results of the qualifying stage will be published on: https://lensky-kray.ru/ and http://ysf.lenskyky-kray.ru/ru/ in the section: news no later than June 23, 2022. Applications for participation in the competition are accepted in accordance with established form until June 15, 2022. 
Based on the results of participation in the poster session and the breakout sessions, the expert committee will award 1, 2 and 3 places for each section. When calculating points for the victory in the Grand Cup of II International Science Games, the team result is taken into account.
The 1st Yakutia International Science Fair-2018 was successfully held within the framework of the Yakutia International Science Games from July 8 to July 15, 2018, where 85 students from 7 countries participated in the conference as well as 25 experts from 9 countries.
The second conference-competition was held during the APCYS-2019 from October 14 to October 18, 2019, where 43 young researchers from 26 municipal general education institutions took part. The work of young researchers was evaluated by an expert commission, which included 25 scientists.
